Finished Pieces, Ready for Placement
As a three-time World Champion with over 40 years at the forefront of the industry, Mike Kirkhart’s work defines the gold standard of fine art fish replicas.
The pieces shown here represent the pinnacle of New Wave Taxidermy. From massive custom installations to meticulously finished studio favorites, each is museum quality. Every fish is cast in our Stuart, Florida studio using original molds created by Mike Kirkhart over nearly five decades, then finished by hand by Mike and his team of talented artists.
The result is a trophy that truly stands out. Each piece is complete and ready for placement.
The Goliath Grouper
This is a massive 8-foot installation built for a level of detail rarely seen outside of national museums. The 5 1/2-foot goliath grouper takes center stage, presented in a dominant, lifelike posture against the backdrop of a weathered shipwreck. This isn’t a wall mount. It is a fully finished, 360-degree pedestal sculpture designed to sit in the middle of a room where it can be viewed from every side.
The artistry focuses on the sheer mass and character of the species, set within a meticulously composed reef environment. This includes the vibrant reef fish darting through the hull, the giant clam at the base, and the lobster peeking out from underneath. The paintwork uses deep, layered finishes that hold up under professional gallery lighting, ensuring the piece looks as realistic up close as it does from across the room.

The White-Spotted Guitarfish
This is a grand-scale eight-foot freestanding reef scene created to a level of refinement typically reserved for museum installations. The white-spotted guitarfish, often called the “shark ray,” is presented in a sweeping, forward glide, its wide prehistoric form suspended above a densely layered reef environment that emphasizes motion rather than mass.
Rather than dominating the space through bulk, the composition highlights the species’ architectural silhouette and surface detail. The guitarfish is balanced carefully against the surrounding reef elements, which were hand-built to support the scene without competing for attention. Coral structures, reef fish, and terrain are arranged to reinforce depth and flow, while the finish work uses layered, professional-grade paint techniques designed to read naturally under gallery and architectural lighting from every angle.
This is not a wall-mounted piece. The work is fully finished on all sides and designed as a 360-degree pedestal display, allowing it to function as a true room-centered installation.
